Trey Drama - Episode 1

Our first bout of external-Trey-freakout came and went last night and although there were several hours of hand-wringing, fortunately this story has a happy ending.

Trey is a voracious eater and gets deep, single-latch feeds on Mama Zeiner. Last night at 10:30, after an uncharacteristic 20 minutes of fussiness (I know we don't know him that well yet, but this was the high-water mark for fussy Trey moments thus far), Trey puked up an impossible volume of semi-clotted blood... enough to warrant a phone call to the PAMF night nurse, who ordered us to promptly head to the ER.

The pediatric ER at Stanford/LPCH at 11:30pm was a freakin' zoo, stuffed with coughing kids and a large number of signs warning of the current "whooping cough epidemic". We were eventually seen and the doctors confirmed the diagnosis that we had hoped for - Dianna had been bleeding into her milk, but because once latched Trey doesn't come off the breast, Dianna had never seen just how much she was bleeding. It turns out it was a lot.

Trey is fine, he doesn't have pyloric stenosis, nor does he appear to have a bleeding disorder. He's just a really, really good feeder. And he's rad. And we love him.

From Trey! The first week
