Trey's bump

Trey has a little bump above his left eyebrow. Maybe you noticed it in the pictures?
From Trey's Hospital Portraits

Trey was born with it. It's funny, at first we were very concerned and now that we know it is benign it seems silly to get rid of. Kind of like a birthmark. The technical term is a dermoid cyst. Essentially it is a skin cell that got trapped during fetal development, placed between the skull and forehead skin. The cells continued to grow and differentiate (like they are supposed to) and hence Trey's bump.

Surprisingly, this is a pretty classic case, the dermatologist called it within seconds of our consult. Multiple doctors have told us not to worry, but it does have to be removed. In the future (years) an injury could cause it to burst open and then the tissue could become necrotic causing undue harm. So there you have it, our sweet little munchkin will need plastic surgery at 6-9 months old. When the time comes, we will post more later, but in the meantime enjoy his precious love bump, because it will not be here for too long....

3 weeks old today!

Wow, time is FLYING! Is Trey not the cutest newborn you have seen (in 2011)?
From Trey - 1st Month

New stats:
- Trey is over 8lbs! Yeah!
- Trey is super active, his neck is getting very strong. He loves to kick and is already showing signs of standing (obviously early stages). Looks like we have the active kiddos
- Sadly, Trey seems to be loosing his chubby cheeks. (We really would love to have a chunky baby. Adonises seem to run in our family)
- Sleep... well, I think I jinxed us by the previous post, we are definitely a little sleep deprived, but we are better than we were with our #1 son. =)

Gus got us a new lens for our camera, the above picture was taken indoors in the evening without a flash. Pretty nice, huh? I will try to get Gus to write a post on the family page about our cool new gadget, but in the meantime enjoy us practicing shots trying to perfect our new toy.

2 weeks old and sleeping well!

Yesterday was Trey's two week birthday. We can not believe it has already been 14 days! This kid is AMAZING, or Tres magnifique as we say it. (Get it?)

From Trey - 1st Month

New stats:
  • 7lbs 10.3 oz -- At 2 weeks old, Trey is past his birth weight, yeah!!!!
  • Holds head up for at 5-10 seconds at a time
  • Has a good strong kick against our legs
  • Currently is going through a pretty heavy gassy state -- Mama Z is laying off the vitamins, hoping this will help
  • Sleeps up to 5-6 hours at a time, AND it is in the evening. Usually around 9pm-3am. We would love to shift this time frame just a little more to the late evening, but so far it does not seem to work. The latest Trey has woke up is at 3:30am, so we head off to bed early these days to catch some well deserved shut eye.

Other news:
Gus went back to work on Monday -- he loves his new job at Agilent, and welcomed the change of pace, even though he is a little sleep deprived. Nana and Papa traveled back to Texas this past Weds. Nana was a HUGE help with cooking, cleaning, and laundry, but most importantly Zane loved the attention from both of them. Dianna liked watching Price is Right with Papa, an old childhood favorite. (Even if Drew Carey is not as good as a host as Bob Barker. It still is a pretty fun show to watch.)

Mama Z is on her own at home for the first time since Trey's birth. For at least a few more weeks, Zane will still go to daycare during the day, so I can get adjusted and spend some quality time with Trey. We have a music/dancing session every day, and I am currently trying to get new songs for our repertoire. So far I have a few Nat King Cole songs including "L-O-V-E", "You are so Beautiful" by Joe Cocker, and Diana Ross' "If We Hold on Together". If you have some other suggestions, please pass them along. I am trying to find a good acoustic version of "Sweet Child O' Mine", but they all pale in comparison to the actual Guns and Roses version.

Other than that, yesterday was the first attempt to take both boys to the grocery store. It was a success! This is no minor feat, so I am pretty proud. The highlight, was getting Zane to hop on my knee as I lifted it up for him to crawl into the shopping cart (Mama Z can not lift Zane yet, due to my c-section). Trey was then comfortably placed in his sling, and off we went. Also, it is amazing how many strangers randomly talk to you when you have a little baby (young, old, men and women). It is actually sweet, children really do make the world a happy place.

From Trey - 1st Month

After shopping, I even made it home in time to make dinner. Of course I was heating up a prepared casserole that Nana made and frozen, but that counts right? OK, so we have a few things to work on... including trying the get a yoga session in during the day. So how do we spend the majority of our hours? You guessed it, feeding. Then a little laundry, shower, dance and reading time, a small nap and lunch for Mama, and maybe one outing - like shopping, doctor's visit, or a walk. That is my day, 9 hours escape that quickly. Then we are off to pick up Zane and have some brother time. Good times for all!

Much love,
Dianna

1 week old today!

From Trey! The first week

Today is Trey's 1 week birthday! What a week it has been. This baby is amazing... the one you hear about but think they do not actually exist. He is on a 3 hour feeding/sleeping schedule (almost to the minute) which allows us to get 1-2 sleep cycles each round, plan our day (including outings but most importantly his breastfeeding schedule), and overall just be calm about the whole newborn phase. Trey also has one 5 hour sleep session, which yesterday was his first time to sleep 5 hours in the evening. So needless to say, Gus and I feel great, and hardly sleep deprived.

In addition, Trey has many alert and awake moments throughout the day. Which has been a lot of fun watching and playing with him. Without question, Trey's favorite thing to look at is Zane. His eyes follow Zane everywhere. He is totally in awe of his big brother. Even more than Mom or Dad... even more than the booby.

Mama's favorite physical attribute: Trey's chubbiness -- Chubby Cheeks and Chubby Butt!
From Trey! The first week

Daddy's favorite: His inquisitive eyes (still trying to get an accurate picture of this)

Stats: (as of 3/8/2011 - last doctor appointment)
Weight: 7 lbs 4 oz (24%) (gained 5 oz since discharge weight on 3/5/11)
Height: 20.25 inches (57%)
Head circumference: 35cm (35%)
"Newborn rash" -- ALL GONE.

What do you need to know about Trey that you can not discover in pictures:
- Trey is a squeaker, not a big crier. Don't get us wrong, this kid can belt it out if he wants too, but typically he just squeaks.
- Trey's big toe (on both feet) spreads out like a large "V", kind of like Spock's Vulcan fingers. Try this on your own foot. So far Mama and Daddy Zeiner, Zane, Nana and Grandma Mouge can not do this, we wonder where this came from genetically.
- Trey smiles when he sleeps, the crooked one side at a time smile. It is really cute.
- Trey is a voracious eater (you might have gathered this from previous posts), he is completely opposite than Zane who was and still is a "snacker".
- Trey's lanugo gave him Elvis sideburns.
- Hates baths, but sure is cute when he gets one...

Much love to all!
